Renegade Troll

At last, we get to the Big Guys, of which the Renegade Troll could potentially be one of three that you can take! The Troll is by a decent margin, the cheapest of the four options, but is the slowest (MA4), has the worst Agility (5+) and arguably comes with the worst negative trait of the set with Really Stupid, meaning unlike the rest he needs to be babysat. Compared to the Ogre he’s also the worst option to throw the Goblin around, thanks to Really Hungry. That being said, he does come with Regeneration, meaning it’s one less player to consider using your apothecary on. He also comes with Projectile Vomit if you manage to get him near low-armour, Blodge targets that otherwise might be too difficult or risky to knock over. It’s technically a worse stab as you can hit yourself with it, but it’s an option.

Compared to the other 3 Trolls in the game, sadly he’s the worst of the bunch. Both the Chaos and Underworld Trolls have mutations as primaries and the Goblin version has a better loner roll and there are two of them. It may not seem like a big difference but there are quite a few mutations that really help the Troll out such as Tentacles and Claw and the difference between a 3+ and 4+ is fairly significant in this game.

Still, he’s not exactly bad and he’s a nice cheap option to stand in the middle. He’s more of a supporting player compared to say the Rat Ogre or Minotaur, especially as you’ll want him near your players anyway. Build him as an anchor and he’ll do his job pretty well.

Build List:

Renegade Troll Base Stats:

Qty Cost MA ST AG PA AV Skills Primary Secondary
0-1 115k 4 5 5+ 5+ 10+ Always Hungry, Loner (4+), Mighty Blow (+1), Projectile Vomit, Really Stupid, Regeneration, Throw Team Mate S AGM

Randomised Skills:

Big Guys aren’t the best option for random skills, due to their high cost and the need for specific skills to make the most of them. As the cheapest, he’s the better of the four to try it on, especially if he’s part of a group of three. There are some good skills in the Strength category to be fair for this player, but not worth the risk I think.

Support Troll | Renegade Troll Build

Primaries: Guard, Brawler, Grab, Strong Arm, Stand Firm
Secondaries: Block, Claw, Pro, Tentacles
Characteristics: ST

The best way to use the Troll in my opinion is a central support role.

Guard is very good on a static Big Guy as they’re hard to shift and will usually be in the thick of the fight anyway. Brawler is a nice, easy way to help with those Both Down rolls, but if you can afford Block I’d get that as soon as you can as it’ll really help his development and effectiveness.

Grab is a good shout as well, either to keep in base contact or get an opponent into a fouling position, or alternatively to push them towards another one of your big guys for a follow-up hit. Claw and Tentacles are good mutation options should you be able to afford them, Claw is great against other big guys and those stubborn AV10+ marking pieces and then Tentacles is great vs Elves and the like. Pro of course always rocks on Big Guys and thankfully isn’t hidden behind a double roll anymore, but will be quite expensive by this point.

If you’re feeling like you need the TTM option and you’re not taking the Ogre, then Strong Arm will help you toss that Goblin, unless you’ve eaten him beforehand. Stand Firm and Guard sync very nicely too and is a fun latter option.

Overall, the Renegade Troll really is going to be in the middle, helping your Linemen or his fellow Big Guys. His low cost is his biggest benefit and gives your team and nice anchor point to work around. He’s not the best of the four but definitely has a spot in most teams.

That’s it for the Renegade Troll build! Check out our guides for the Renegade Human Lineman, Renegade Human Thrower, Renegade Goblin, Renegade Skaven, Renegade Orc, Renegade Dark Elf, Renegade Ogre, Renegade Minotaur and Renegade Rat Ogre.

Vampire Thrower

Probably the closest in terms of the old vanilla Vampire player, is the Vampire Thrower. For 110k, you get the classical statline of Strength 4 and AG2+ along with a very, very nice PA2+ and Pass for good measure. The Vampire Thrower very much does what it says on the...
