Of the four Big Guys available, the Chaos Renegade Ogre is arguably the most reliable. He doesn’t need babysitting like the Troll, won’t hurt your own teammates like the Rat Ogre and doesn’t always have to be hitting things like the Minotaur. He’s your best Throw Team Mate option as well, with no Very Hungry roll to pass before attempting the action. He’s also your most resilient, sharing AV10+ with the Troll, but adding Thick Skull to keep him on the pitch longer, although you will need the apothecary if he does get injured. There’s also his cost at 140k, which means he’s 25k more than the Troll and 10k less than the other two, putting him roughly in the middle and definitely affordable.
The Ogre is also arguably the most flexible of the four thanks to his reliability. Both the Minotaur and Rat Ogre really want to be constantly fighting and their Frenzy means they’re likely going to be dragged out of position fairly frequently so they’re less able to support to rest of the team if they’re not consistently breaking armour. While the Ogre does lack the lethality of those two and the value of the Troll, he’s a very solid pick overall and of the four, is the one I’d almost always include.
Build List:
Renegade Ogre Base Stats:
| Qty | Cost | MA | ST | AG | PA | AV | Skills | Primary | Secondary |
| 0-1 | 140k | 5 | 5 | 4+ | 5+ | 10+ | Bone Head, Loner (4+), Mighty Blow (+1), Thick Skull, Throw Team Mate | S | AGM |
Randomised Skills:
Much like the others, he needs set skills to be the best he can be. Of the four he can probably make the most of anything in the Strength column, however, considering he already comes with MB and Thick Skull, the pool is much smaller and thus more reliable, in a way.
Secondaries aren’t too much more attractive, there are a lot of ball handling and agility-based skills in Mutations which you could roll into very easily, but sadly AG5+ just won’t really benefit from enough. There’s a 1 in 12 chance of getting Claw which is the best option, although you could make use of Horns and Foul Appearance too.
Support Ogre | Renegade Ogre Build
Primaries: Guard, Brawler, Grab, Strong Arm
Secondaries: Block, Claw, Pro, Tentacles
Characteristics: ST, MA, AG, PA
A bit like the Troll, the Renegade Ogre sits in the middle, hits things and helps the rest of the team. Guard and ST5 are a perfect match and with AV10+ it’s not often he’ll be taken out of the game. Brawler is a cheaper way to help with Both Downs, but as usual, Block should be a priority in terms of Secondary skills and the earlier you get it, the better.
Renegades like a bit of fouling, so Grab can drag those poor sods further into your line for better fouls, or even get them closer to your Minotaur and Rat Ogre for some additional punches on particularly stubborn players. Strong Arm turns your TTMs into a 4+ rather than 5+ and if you wanted to, you could try for a PA buff to go even further and turn it into a 3+
If you have the SPP, Claw and Pro are very good Secondaries to get for the Renegade Ogre, the former being great if you’re up against AV10+ teams and the latter being just good on Big Guys anyway, especially as it’s a 3+ these days. Tentacles is good if you find yourself against lots of ST3
Flexible Ogre | Renegade Ogre Build
Primaries: Guard, Brawler/Juggernaut, Break Tackle, Guard
Secondaries: Block, Dodge, Horns, Claw
Characteristics: ST, MA, AG
At AG4+, along with the Minotaur and Rat Ogre, the Ogre is a good candidate for Break Tackle as his first Dodge will be a 2+. Although not as fast as the Rat Ogre, this gives him a surprising amount of flexibility in his positioning and perhaps more importantly, makes the trick of sticking basic linemen in front of him to keep him occupied for the rest of the game less effective as he can just dash away.
He can fulfil a bit more of a Blitzer type player with this too, although that’s perhaps a better role for the Mino and R-Ogre. Even so, Juggernaut is a good pick here as it’ll turn Both Downs into pushes and means you can move Stand Firm players around too, making him pretty good at breaking through defensive lines. Give him Guard and you can put him into spots where he’ll be most useful without worrying too much about getting bogged down in players your opponent doesn’t mind taking hits.

The Renegade Ogre is probably your most reliable and cost-effective Big Guy. He can operate on his own and benefits from pretty much most skills you throw at him. He’s not quite a lone operator so i’s worth keeping some support around him, but he’ll do his job pretty well regardless, as long as those Bone Heads behave themselves!
