Renegade Human Thrower

Where the Renegade Human Lineman is basically a carbon copy of its Human counterpart, the Renegade Human Thrower is a strange imitation that doesn’t quite hit the mark. For 5k less, you lose a point of PA, swap Sure Hands for Safe Pair of Hands and then, unfortunately, gain Animosity to all of your teammates.

Renegades aren’t necessarily a passing team, although, with the MV7 Skaven and AG2+ Dark Elf, it can be possible with some choice mutations, but even so, the drop in PA alongside Animosity seems a bit much to me. Safe Pair of Hands isn’t as good as Sure Hands either, although perhaps they believed it combined too well with Big Hand to consider keeping the latter option. You only get access to one of these as well, so if you want to pass you have to commit to it big time, or stick with a standard ball carrier which…. well the Dark Elf is probably the better option there anyway with its Agility Primaries, and also comes with PA3+ itself so it can pass in a pinch.

It still has its uses, however. The Renegade Human Thrower is the only member of the Renegade team who has Pass in its Primary access, so there are some ball movement options available. In particular, you can get Leader on a relatively inexpensive player and one that with some skills, could also be used to recover the ball should you knock it loose.

Build List:

Renegade Human Thrower Base Stats:

Qty Cost MA ST AG PA AV Skills Primary Secondary
0-1 75k 6 3 3+ 3+ 9+ Pass, Safe Pair of Hands, Animosity (all team-mates) GMP AS

Randomised Skills:

Mutations and General are good, Passing less so but not awful. As you can only buy one, I’d skip on the Thrower.

Renegade Runner | Renegade Human Thrower Build

Primaries: Block, Extra Arms, Sure Hands, Fend, Two Heads, Big Hand,
Secondaries:  Dodge, Side Step
Characteristics: ST, AG, MV

Probably the most effective manner of building the Thrower is the go with a typical Runner build, making it easier and safer to pick up the ball and making t harder to knock it over once they have it.

The benefit here is Mutations access makes this easier beyond the usual Block & Sure Hands combination. Extra Arms for picking up on a 2+, as well as the added bonus of catching a High Kick on a 3+, along with Big Hands to ignore most modifiers, is pretty good overall. Two Heads is an easy way to get 2+ Dodges as well in order to escape trouble, or combo with Big Hand to nab a loose ball no matter how many bodies are around it!

Fend nicely rounds out the primaries and is a solid pick for any ball carrier to make running away easier after being hit.

Secondaries are the usual Dodge for staying up and easier escapes, Side Step for side cages and choosing where to go when hit, so usually closer to your own team!

If you’re scoring with this player, you might occasionally find yourself in range of a characteristic. In this case, all of ST, AG and MV are worthwhile. If you get AG2+ you could drop Two Heads if you haven’t got it already, but it does mean you can 2+ dodge into a single tackle which gives you some better escape options, or easier routes to the Touchdown line. Movement is great should you not roll AG or ST, MV7 is great for a runner, especially one with Two Heads.

Pass if You Must | Renegade Human Thrower Build

Primaries: Extra Arms, Accurate, Safe Pass, Block
Secondaries: Dodge, Sure Feet
Characteristics: PA, MV

Ok so you really, really want to pass? Fine.

I’d still get Extra Arms first, nothing worse than having to sit in your backfield for multiple turns while you roll double 2s over and over again. Sadly none of the other mutations help us with the passing action, plenty to help with Catching however which we’ll get to on the other players.

So back to Passing skills we go and, really your options are Accurate and Safe Pass here. The former gives you 2+’s for Quick Passes and then 3+ for Short Pass which, considering you already have the Pass skill is okay and Safe Pass stops fumbles being a menace. Block is nice for some added protection and some additional utility when defending.

Outside of that, Dodge and Sure Feet are decent secondaries, the latter is a good way to get that extra square or two you need to turn a Long Pass into a Short Pass, and so on.

Getting PA2+ is obviously a good way to improve this player significantly, but if you’re passing with them you’re not scoring with them so, it could be hard to get the 18spp you need to even try for it and let’s be honest, a 50% chance to get it may as well be 10% in this game!

Not the most exciting and feels a little bad considering the price point compared to a lot of other Throwers, but still 75k gives you the option at least and you can make a decent Runner with the Renegae Human Thrower. Importantly, it frees up your other positions to perform other jobs that this one would be wasted on, so that’s a bonus.

Keep them as a Runner, with the passing as a last-ditch option should things turn south.

Vampire Thrower

Probably the closest in terms of the old vanilla Vampire player, is the Vampire Thrower. For 110k, you get the classical statline of Strength 4 and AG2+ along with a very, very nice PA2+ and Pass for good measure. The Vampire Thrower very much does what it says on the...
