Renegade Minotaur

The Chaos Renegade Minotaur competes a little more with the Rat Ogre compared to the other two Renegade Big Guys. Both are Frenzy players who want to consistently be fighting things thanks to their respective negative traits, although the Minotaur isn’t going to be smashing your own players when he doesn’t get his way nor will he lose his tackle zones if no one is on the receiving end of the tantrums. They’re also both 150k with the same stats, except the Minotaur is a little slower with MA5, but does come with Thick Skull so his AV9+ isn’t quite as harsh.

The good thing is, of course, you can take both on the Renegades team, but that does mean you have two Frenzy Big Guys who can easily get dragged away from the fight if their target’s armour holds. Not only that, both are going to be fighting over your Blitz actions, especially if they find themselves without a nearby target, otherwise they’re not doing much. Unlike the Troll and Ogre, they’re not quite as good at supporting their nearby teammates and while you can get Guard, Frenzy will probably take them away from the most useful areas.

Really, the Minotaur is going to be best used as a linebreaker. Unchannelled Fury means he can stay more central as if you fail the roll, he’s still somewhat useful by providing tackle zones. He’s also great on the flanks as, unlike the Rat Ogre, he can still operate by himself without much risk of losing his tackle zones. In fact, if you pick both in your team, the Minotaur is arguably the better to operate independently and make space along the sides for your team to move into as he won’t need a babysitter to help him.

Build List:

Renegade Minotaur Base Stats:

Qty Cost MA ST AG PA AV Skills Primary Secondary
0-1 150k 5 5 4+ 9+ Loner (4+), Frenzy, Horns, Mighty Blow (+1), Thick Skull, Unchannelled Fury S AGM

Randomised Skills:

Of the four, the Minotaur isn’t getting much from Random skills. Where the Ogre and Troll can make some use of most of the skills available, there are a few that are much less effective with the Minotaur. In particular, things like Brawler, Grab and Multi-Block, while fine if you’re blocking normally, don’t work when Blitzing so have much less value. Strong Arm becomes a complete waste as he has no PA value, Piling On isn’t great either as you’re AV9+ and thus a good fouling target once on the ground.

Secondaries are much the same, as mentioned before lots of the Mutations skills are about improving Agility checks and ball handling, so less great. Two Heads could be hilarious as it means you’re Dodging on a 3+, but Break Tackle is way, way better for the same SPP cost.

Linebreaker | Renegade Minotaur Build

Primaries: Juggernaut, Break Tackle, Stand Firm, Guard
Secondaries: Block, Claw, Pro,
Characteristics: ST, MA

This build only really needs two skills to be effective, Juggernaut and Break Tackle, although of course, Block will really complete the set. Break Tackle means you’ll be Dodging away on a 2+ so you’ll be able to great away and hit any targets in range. Juggernaut and Frenzy are best friends, turning all of those Both Downs into Pushes and negating both Wrestle and Stand Firm, so you’ll be able to put a gap into pretty much any defensive line. Against ST3 you should be able to get 2-dies on both Blocks, but watch for Guard spam turning them into 1-dies or worse.

Stand Firm is worth taking as you can use the above for Surfing as well and the last thing you’d want to see is your Minotaur getting knocked unceremoniously into the crowd. Guard is a good shout as well especially if you play him centrally, so you can get some follow-up blocks wherever he’s ended up and if he’s stuck, you can try to free him.

In terms of other secondaries, Claw and Pro are some good picks. Claw for smashing AV9+ and beyond, then Pro to help with Unchannelled Fury or the occasional double skulls.

The Renegade Minotaur isn’t exactly a subtle player and is similar in many ways to the Rat Ogre. However, what he loses in speed he gains in reliability and the fact that he’s not turning off his tackle zones when he fails his activation rolls. Keep him hitting and keep him Blitzing and you’ll be able to open up space for the rest of your team and hopefully get some removals.

That’s it for the Renegade Minotaur build! Check out our guides for the Renegade Human Lineman, Renegade Human Thrower, Renegade Goblin, Renegade Skaven, Renegade Orc, Renegade Dark Elf, Renegade Troll, Renegade Ogre and Renegade Rat Ogre.

Vampire Thrower

Probably the closest in terms of the old vanilla Vampire player, is the Vampire Thrower. For 110k, you get the classical statline of Strength 4 and AG2+ along with a very, very nice PA2+ and Pass for good measure. The Vampire Thrower very much does what it says on the...
