Renegade Skaven

The Renegade Skaven opens up your team to a bit more speed, with MA7 the highest you can get and at AG3 with access to Two Heads, gives them a very long threat range for both attacking and defending. With the more numerous Humans taking up the Linemen role this rat usually performs on the regular Skaven team, it frees them up to take on a more blitzer/receiver role where they can actually use their speed properly.

Much like what we’ve done with the other builds, he compares favourably to the regular Skaven Linemen, in that he’s the same cost, has the same stats but his Mutations access moves into the Primaries, very nice indeed! As per the other 0-1 positional, he also has Animosity to all teammates, but this is less important here as he’ll more than likely be the one receiving as opposed to passing.

Build List:

Renegade Skaven Base Stats:

Qty Cost MA ST AG PA AV Skills Primary Secondary
0-1 50k 7 3 3+ 4+ 8+ Animosity (all team-mates) GM AS

Randomised Skills:

General and Mutations are great for randoms but at 0-1 and considering he’s the sole MA7 player, I’d go for picked skills personally.

Sacker | Renegade Skaven Build

Primaries: Wrestle, Horns, Two Heads, Strip Ball, Frenzy
Secondaries: Dodge, Sure Feet, Sprint
Characteristics: MA, ST, AG

At MA7, the Skaven is your best option as a backline Sacker. The Goblin can do it as well with some Sure Feet and Sprint but needs Dauntless to really pull that build together. The Skaven however, with Horns, is getting 2 dies against any unprotected ST3 players and has the speed to keep up with most Catcher and Runner players.

Wrestle is great on Skaven Linemen anyway, so with added Horns it’s even better on the Renegade version. MA7 is huge on defence, as you’ll usually have a couple of squares on MA8 and MA9 players anyway. Keep him central enough that he can’t be bypassed and he should be able to drag down anything that tries to break through.

Two Heads and Dodge can help here in case he gets marked or needs to break through a screen that managed to bypass your defence, Sure Feet and Sprint can also give you a bit more range should you find yourself out of position.

I like Strip Ball and Frenzy here as well for later skills or if you’re struggling to get enough SPP for Secondaries. Strip Ball is always good, but less effective if the other team has Sure Hands or even Monstrous Mouth. Frenzy gives you some more chances to get the ball down and offers a Surfing threat and MA7 should be enough to get him off the sideline after he’s done, but it’s still a risky skill.

All the usual Characteristics are good, MA8 makes his range massive and an increase to ST means he can Horns down ST4 players. AG is pretty good too which means you probably don’t need Two Heads and means you can probably retrieve the ball once it’s down.

Receiver | Renegade Skaven Build

Primaries: Monstrous Mouth, Extra Arms, Block, Two Heads
Secondaries: Dodge, Sprint, Sure Feet
Characteristics: MA, AG

With all that movement, it seems a waste not to have a Catcher/Receiver on this team, especially if you are going for a Passing Human Thrower. Animosity is less than ideal of course as it still affects Hand-Offs, but with a reroll it’s still a 97.2% chance to succeed, just give yourself an extra turn in case those dastardly double ones decide to be detrimental to your desires.

Monstrous Mouth is perfect for this as it’s Catch with the added bonus of being immune to Strip Ball. Coupled with Extra Arms means you’ll always be getting the ball on a 2+ with a reroll and if you’re hit by a sacker, you’re probably going to be ok!

Dodge is a good secondary here, more so for defensive reasons but also combines well with Two Heads to escape any potential threats. Sure Feet and Sprint make you basically MA10, so you’re scoring from just beyond the touchline.

The Renegade Skaven provides some much needed speed to a fairly average team in terms of Movement, so his best roles are going to be exploiting that. Which build you go for will depend on your league, the sacker will be good against speedy teams where he’s able to keep up with would-be scorers, then the Receiver build will be better against slower teams who won’t be able to catch him once you break through and you can exploit ball movement a little more against.

That’s it for the Renegade Skaven build! Check out our guides for the Renegade Human Lineman, Renegade Human Thrower, Renegade Goblin, Renegade Dark Elf, Renegade Orc, Renegade Troll, Renegade Ogre, Renegade Minotaur and Renegade Rat Ogre.

Vampire Thrower

Probably the closest in terms of the old vanilla Vampire player, is the Vampire Thrower. For 110k, you get the classical statline of Strength 4 and AG2+ along with a very, very nice PA2+ and Pass for good measure. The Vampire Thrower very much does what it says on the...
