Where the Minotaur is simply angry, the Renegade Rat Ogre is absolutely livid by comparison! The final Big Guy available on the Chaos Renegades team, the Rat Ogre distinguishes itself from its horned colleague with its superior speed and the fact it’ll quite happily murder its own teammates along with the opponents. Not only that, it also comes with Prehensile Tail, so it’ll trip up the occasional Elf who attempts to flee from its unbridled fury.
Animal Savagery can be a pain but in comparison to the Skaven Rate Ogre, you’ll usually be hitting your AV9+ Human teammates as opposed to the AV8+ Line-rats, meaning that when he does throw a strop, your players are less likely to end up off the pitch. This means that actually, his negative trait is a little less punishing on the Chaos Renegades as opposed to the normal Skaven team, so you’re getting a tad more from your money in theory, even if the two versions of the Rat Ogre are identical otherwise.
In a similar vein to the Troll and Ogre, the Rat Ogre is comparable to the Minotaur, in that they largely fulfil the same role, but the former requires a friend to help him out. Where the Minotaur can quite happily work independently, Animal Savagery does mean you’ll need some fodder nearby, otherwise he’ll be losing his tackle zones, doubly punishing for the Rat Ogre as he needs them to use his Prehensile Tail. So what you’ll find is where the Minotaur can operate on the flanks a little more or chase down fleeing players, the Rat Ogre will need to stay within the core of your team to make sure he’s always active or will need some support otherwise. He can still operate to the side of either a Troll or Ogre who’s anchoring the team in the middle, but don’t let him wander too far without support, otherwise, he could lose his tackle zones and your opponent suddenly has space to dive through.
Build List:
Renegade Rat Ogre Base Stats:
| Qty | Cost | MA | ST | AG | PA | AV | Skills | Primary | Secondary |
| 0-1 | 150k | 6 | 5 | 4+ | 9+ | Animal Savagery, Frenzy, Loner (4+), Mighty Blow (+1), Prehensile Tail | S | AGM |
Randomised Skills:
The Rat Ogre, like the Minotaur, doesn’t get much from random secondaries, there are too many iffy ones to accidentally roll for 150k. The same goes for the others, General has a lot of poor skills for this player, and Agility and Mutations have too many ball-handling skills to be worth the risk.
Ratty Basher | Renegade Rat Ogre Build
Primaries: Juggernaut, Break Tackle, Guard, Stand Firm/Arm Bar
Secondaries: Block, Claw, Pro, Dodge
Characteristics: ST, MA
As your Minotaur and Rat Ogre will be sharing Blitzes for most of the game, Juggernaut is still a great skill to add on, even if you’re just Blitzing from a standing position to protect yourself against Block. Break Tackle on ST5/AG4+ is also great and will allow him to break free from any potential danger, and reach critical targets to just get away from those sacrificial linemen so he can hit more valuable players. Just make sure that when you do so, you’re Blitzing into a position where you’ll have an ally available next turn, or at least one that can move to assist before you activate him.
As he’ll usually have players with him, Guard is more of a consideration this time around, you can utilise his Frenzy skill to force his way into areas to make the most of this skill. Arm Bar is also pretty darn nice, it pairs well with Prehensile Tail and will make your opponent seriously consider whether dodging away is worth it, especially on anyone AV8+.
As with most Big Guys, especially those with Frenzy, it’s always worth getting Block as early as possible ideally the first skill to keep the SPP costs down, although Juggernaut (or even Brawler too) can help you should you find you need something earlier on, say if you’re against Norse or Dwarves. Claw is available and thus never a bad option, then Pro is a nice addition to mitigate the effects of Animal Savagery. Dodge could be an option too if you do play him in a purely Blitzing role.

The Renegade Rat Ogre completes our set of Big Guys and while he is similar to the Minotaur, the two have their differences but work extremely well together. With a Troll or Ogre in the centre, they can operate with a couple of support teammates to help you get that player advantage, even if it can go the other way sometimes!
