Chaos Chosen Minotaur

The classic Chaos Big Guy, none of this Troll or Ogre business, just the big lad with big horns and big emotions, the Chaos Chosen Minotaur!

About as subtle as a sledgehammer, the Chaos Minotaur is your main source of causing… well chaos. He makes space, deals damage and is pretty much impossible to ignore thanks to Frenzy and Mighty Blow and can be a pain to both use and go up against.

As far as big guys go, he’s pretty reliable. Unchannelled Furys means a roll of a 1-3 causes him to do nothing, but you get to add 2 to this roll (effectively making it a 2+ rather than 4+) if you make a Block action with him, including Blitzes. The major benefit is, unlike Bone Head or Really Stupid, he doesn’t lose his tackle zones so failing is nowhere near as bad as say, failing with an Ogre or a Troll. This is his biggest boon over the other two and considering Chaos Chosen’s struggle for reliability, it’s a good reason to pick him as your big guy.

However, he does have AV9+ compared to 10+ of the other two and Frenzy means he can easily be dragged away from the action by a particularly stubborn lineman who just won’t stay down. He’s also the most expensive at 150k, so he’s harder to fit into a TV1000 build without dropping precious rerolls or blockers. That being said, he’s my personal pick of the three and I would happily spend a few games without him to save up enough cash.

Build List:

Randomised Skills:

Very rarely are Random skills worth it on Big Guys, even less so on one worth 150k! Skip em.

Big Anchor | Chaos Chosen Minotaur Build

Primaries: Guard, Stand Firm, Tentacles, Claw, Break Tackle
Secondaries: Block, Pro
Characteristics: ST, MV

The typical Big Guy role, sit in the middle and hit things while helping your teammates out. The Minotaur wants to be hitting things as much as possible, so you want to make that safer, and more effective but also still provide assistance to your nearby Blockers if Fury occurs.

I’d personally speed-run Block as your first choice. Yes it’s a secondary but with the amount of blocks this guy will be making and Mighty Blow (+1) built in, SPP won’t be scarce, it’s worth the extra game or two to get.  You could grab an early Brawler instead, but at AV9+ you’ll want the protection Block provides.

Before the change, I’d of grabbed Tentacles next as one of the best ways to avoid getting pounded by Big Guys is to Dodge away. However, you’re much less likely to keep a hold of a strength 3 lineman in the new edition (50% vs 58.3% in BB2) so I’m going to put this behind Guard and Stand Firm. Both of those are incredibly useful, one for helping your Blockers vs other Strength 4 pieces and SF will stop you from being knocked away.  Claw then gives you an edge against other Big Guys, or high armour pieces looking to mark you out of the game. Break Tackle also helps you stopped being taken out of the game by a random, stubborn lineman.

Pro is a good shout and better this edition too, going off on a 3+ rather than 4+. It’s probably not worth saving for a Characteristic over Secondaries, but obviously, Strength 6 is marvellous if you can get it.

Rampaging Bull |Chaos Chosen Minotaur Build

Primaries: Juggernaut, Claw, Break Tackle, Stand Fim, Guard
Secondaries: Block, Pro, Dodge, Jump Up
Characteristics: ST, AG, MV

As opposed to being in the middle hitting things, this Minotaur will be all over the pitch hitting things! As a Big Guy with AG4+, he retains the 2+ Dodge with Break Tackle which is pretty great, so he can target pretty much whoever he wants. It also means you’re less likely to be bogged down by some particularly stubborn sacrificial lineman, as you can just… leave.

Juggernaut is your primary skill as it combos very nicely with Frenzy so can use Both Downs to either try again or push them further towards the edge. If your primary goal is to surf, then Stand Firm will be necessary to stop the counter surf. Claw softens up your AV10+ targets and again means you can hit other Big Guys with a good chance of dropping them. Guard rounds it all off, giving you assists should your Mino find himself right in the thick of things, which he probably will be!

For Secondaries (other than Block & Pro), Dodge is hilarious and with BT, means you’re 2+ Dodging with a ReRoll. Jump Up could be pretty useful as well and can save your Blitz action to be used elsewhere.

Vampire Thrower

Probably the closest in terms of the old vanilla Vampire player, is the Vampire Thrower. For 110k, you get the classical statline of Strength 4 and AG2+ along with a very, very nice PA2+ and Pass for good measure. The Vampire Thrower very much does what it says on the...
