Chaos Chosen Blocker

The beefy lineup of the Chaos Chosen team, Chosen Blockers (or Chaos Warriors if you’re used to the old names), are the archetypical strength 4 blocker players, hitting everything they can get their hands on and providing a wall of muscle and armour either between their opponents and their own ball carrier, or their touchdown zone.

You’ll almost always find a Chaos Chosen team with four of these burly boys, for 100k you get quite a lot for your money, especially compared to something like Big ‘Uns on the Orc team. While you get the usual lower-than-average movement and AV10+, you have a surprisingly decent AG3+, meaning they can (although you shouldn’t often) dodge and pick up the ball if you’re in a bind. More importantly, you have your mutations access, granting ways to tie down other players or crack open tough armour.

Their biggest weakness is a complete lack of starting skills. No Block, no Mighty Blow, not even Brawler! As your Beastmen are going to be the ones scoring, this means Blockers are solely reliant on casualty and MVP spp, so their progression can be fairly slow unless you completely batter your opponents. If you get nothing but stuns and KO’s during a game, sure you can win the fixture but your Blockers will find themselves lagging a ways behind. No block also means you’re less likely to make those av rolls anyway, and means hitting strength 3 block pieces like Dwarves, Humans and Norse, can be pretty risky even on 2die blocks.

But, it only really takes a couple of skills to get Chosen Blockers going and once they do, they get pretty scary!

Build List:

Chosen Warrior Base Stats:

Qty Cost MA ST AG PA AV Skills Primary Secondary
0-4 100k 5 4 3+ 5+ 10+ None GMS A

Randomised Skills:

SPP is going to be hard to come by without a bunch of initial casualties, so I’d skip random skills for these guys. At 100k, you don’t really want to be replacing a Blocker that accidentally rolled Strong Arm or Shadowing!

Typical Blocker | Chaos Chosen Blocker Build

Primaries: Block, Mighty Blow, Guard, Claw, Tackle, Stand Firm
Secondaries: Dodge
Characteristics: ST

This is your typical Chaos Blocker, dishes out hits, provides ST4 assists that are hard to remove, basically a buff roadblock that protects and dishes damage.

Block is priority 1 here, making you knock down more often and protecting you against cheeky 1 dies or getting hit by other ST4 pieces. There’s nothing else I’d go for first, to be honest, these guys really need this skill and makes them so much more effective.

After that, it’s picking your poison and will depend on the teams you’re up against. Mighty Blow is an easy second choice most of the time, making your hits count more often and helping to ramp up their SPP generation. Plan A for Chosen teams is to remove as many players as possible and this will facilitate that plan better. A Block/MB Blocker is a very good piece by itself.

Guard will help massively if you find yourself against Guard spam teams like Dwarves and give you the edge against other ST4 teams like Orcs, Black Orcs, Nurgle and Lizardmen and keeps your cage pretty safe too. Claw is great vs these teams as well and while the Claw/MB combo vs armour is no more, they still work nicely together as MB will occur on the Injury roll.

Tackle is obvious vs agility teams and if you find your league/competition has lots of them, you could skip Claw and grab this instead. Stand Firm rocks on ST4 guys with Guard prevents your opponents from moving your Tackle Blocker away, making their dodges harder. If you manage to get all the way to max level, something like grab or arm bar could be useful as well, or something fun like disturbing presence/foul appearance for a Nurgle-like player.

If you get fancied it, you could try for a Strength buff as well to some ST5 shenanigans. If you don’t get it, you could go for Dodge as well, making them hilariously hard to knock down and abuse that Ag3+.

For the most part, this will be your go-to for all 4 Blockers. The days of Claw/PO/MB are over and getting sent off with Pile Driver isn’t really worth it.

Holding Blocker | Chaos Chosen Blocker Build

Primaries: Block, Mighty Blow, Guard, Tackle, Prehensile Tail/Tentacles, Stand Firm, Arm Bar
Secondaries: Dodge
Characteristics: ST

Find yourself against lots of Skaven and Elves? Well, my friend look no further than the Holding Blocker! To keep them useful even against non-dodgy players, I’d still start with the Block/MB/Guard combo as dishing out hits is still their schtick.

But after that, you can get pretty nasty in terms of making dodges pretty dangerous. Tackle goes first to stop the Re-Rolls, then personally I would go for Prehensile Tail first before taking Tentacles. The reason is a strength 3 player is going to escape most of the time, as you need to roll a 5+ on your D6 to prevent them (you need a 6 to stop them, so (5+4)-3=6), so getting that -1 to dodge is better value overall. If, for some reason, you’re against a lot of stunty teams or you managed to get a strength buff, then tentacles could go first, as you’ll then only need a 4+, so you go from a 33.3% to 50% chance to succeed in holding them in place.

Stand Firm again means that they have to knock you down to avoid these skills and you could go for Arm Bar to complete this build, essentially giving you a version of Mighty Blow that activates when they fail their dodge.

If you’re flush with SPP, again you could grab Dodge, but I feel for this build you’ll need Stand Firm first, as if you’re pushed away then your skills are as useless as they are when knocked down (unless you’re fortunate enough to be pushed into another opponent).

As mentioned before ST is a great addition here, meaning Tentacles only needs a 4+ to succeed vs ST3 and of course makes better at hitting and being hit anyway.

It’s hard to go wrong with the Blocker, lean into the bash aspect of the game and they’ll put a good shift in. With four of them, I’d either build all of them in the typical manner or go for two of each. If you find yourself against a bunch of high-av teams then holding skills aren’t going to do much, but the bash skills will work against pretty much any opponent.

That’s it for the Chaos Chosen Blocker build! Check out our guides for Beastmen Runners, Chaos Ogre, Chaos Troll and Chaos Minotaur.

Vampire Thrower

Probably the closest in terms of the old vanilla Vampire player, is the Vampire Thrower. For 110k, you get the classical statline of Strength 4 and AG2+ along with a very, very nice PA2+ and Pass for good measure. The Vampire Thrower very much does what it says on the...
