Jaguar Warrior Blockers

Jaguar Warrior Blockers are the new player on the block for the Amazon team, essentially replacing the Catcher from the old rules and provided some much needed strength and armour to the team. These stronk ladies are absolutely the highlight of the new Amazon team for me, with their fairly unqiue statline of MV6, ST4, AG3+ with Dodge, making them incredibly mobile for what is typically a fairly static kind of player. Not only that, they start with a very strong Primary pairing of General and Strength, meaning it’s going to be pretty easy to get the skills they need to perform their Blocker role, especially when they start with defensive!

I’m honestly very excited about this player and as mentioned, in my opinion the best part about the new Amazon team.

For a Blocker, I’m not so sure they actually want to be stuck in the fight for long periods of time. They act a bit like the Old Amazon Blitzer, as a support player putting their Defensive skill into areas where Guard is most present and negating it. With their S4, they’re going to be tough to move out the way too, followed by a 3+ rerollable dodge to reposition to cause more issues. These aren’t your typical Line of Scrimmage Chaos Warriors, Saurus, Flesh Golems or Bloaters. AV9+ is better but still only Human/Dark Elf levels of robustness, so keep them away from the LoS on defense as they’ll be easily overwhelmed and likely fouled, especially with only 2 of them on the field. MV6, although high for this type of player is still only average, so positioning is key to ensure they’re not left in the dust by MV7/8.

Build List:

Randomised Skills:

It’s very tempting it has to be said, there’s not much that wont work for them, outside of rolling Strong Arm or Dirty Player. A random secondary might be worth it too, there’s a lot on there they could use but overall I’d say picking your skills is going to be the better play, unless you’re finding yourself really strapped for SPP. The great thing is, with AG3+, MV6 and Dodge, you can absolutely score with the Jaguar Warrior Blockers (more on that later).

Ultimate Defense | Jaguar Warrior Blockers

Primaries: Block, Guard, Stand Firm, Mighty Blow, Break Tackle, Tackle
Secondaries: Side-Step (instead of SF), Diving Tackle
Characteristics: ST/AG/MV

This player gets stuck in and for the most part stays there, providing a strong pairing of Guard and Defensive, turning off pretty much every assist next to them when it’s your opponent’s turn. Give them Block first, of course, followed by Guard for some assist shenanigans. Then it’s a toss-up between Stand Firm and Mighty Blow. The former is going to help keep your Blocker in the fight, maximising their Defensive usage and partnered with Blodge, they’re going to be there a while. Mighty Blow however is never a bad skill and on S4, you’re going to be getting 2D blocks most of the time anyway. Tackle again is a good utility skill, although for me it’s going to get better use on the Blitzers, although getting it earlier when in an Elf/Skaven heavy league is certainly useful.

Break Tackle is amazing on this player and a must-take at some point, as they’ll be Dodging on 2+s with an in-built reroll, allowing you to reposition so easily for a player of this type and get the most out of your Guard/Defensive.

If you’re flush with SPP, you could absolutely give them Side Step instead of Stand Firm, so you can reorganise your Guard/Defensive into a new position to cause more frustration. Diving Tackle is a good shout as well, this type of player will find themselves being Dodged away from and being MV6 means they’re not as punished from falling onto the ground as other S4 players.

It’s a big SPP ask for these ladies, their experience is mostly going to come from the odd CAS and MVP, to get some stat-ups. They’re all good, S5 puts them into Big Gal territory, AG4 is absolutely hysterical on a player like this and I’d actually take if over the strength increase. MV7, again is amazing for this player and AV10+ will increase their longevity, but I wouldn’t take it over the others.

Murder Jaguar | Jaguar Warrior Blockers

Primaries: Block, Mighty Blow, Guard, Break Tackle, Frenzy, Juggernaught
Secondaries: Diving Tackle, Sure Feet
Characteristics: ST/AG/MV

If your Blitzers are leaning into more striker and ball-harraser builds, this is a good way to get some removals. Block again is first priority, followed by Mighty Blow. Even with just these two, you have a very agile piece that can dominate their portion of the pitch, hitting key players and thanks to Dodge, difficult to mark effectively. Break Tackle is a nice third option for your 2+ dodges, or even 3+ through a single tackle zone if you’re feeling particularly brave.

Following on, Tackle for Dodgy types and maybe even Frenzy to turn yourself into an Ulfwerener! If you do that, then Juggernaught partners well and turns them into decent Surfers, although it does mean you’re taking them away from the centre of the pitch which is where they really need to be.

Diving Tackle and Sure Feet give them a bit more utility and range, depending on your league or competition.

These girls are about causing havoc in the mid-field, still providing their Guard/Defensive duties but when they hit back, they hit back hard. Again, pretty much all the stat-ups are good, but I’d be looking at Strength over Agility for this build.

Ball Carrier | Jaguar Warrior Blockers

Primaries: Block, Sure Hands, Break Tackle
Secondaries: Catch, Sure Feet, Sprint
Characteristics:  AG, MV

Yes, you read that correctly… hear me out!

This is an S4 player with AG3+ and MV6, which means they can pick up or catch the ball on a 3+, then move at least at an average pace. Strength 4 means that the average sacker player, needs two assists to get a 2D block, and considering you’ll usually have a few players helping or within a cage, unless they have Dauntless or are S4 themselves, isn’t going to happen very often. Furthermore, even if your opponent gets GUARD on this player, DEFENSIVE says NO and turns it off, again, meaning they’re probably going to have to perform uphill blocks. Not only that, they have DODGE, so you can’t even mark them properly, as she and the rest of her supporting players, will probably just run away, or hit you back if you’re threatening with Tackle. MV6, while not amazing, is still in the range of most carrier builds for Thrower type players and still in two-turn touchdown range from the halfway line.

For the skills, Block is essential for any carrier. Sure Hands means you can actually use them to pick up the ball (throw that silly Python in the trash!) and protects from Stip Ball. Then, you get Break Tackle, meaning you’re dodging away on 2s with a reroll, turning you into a Strength 4 Elf! I’d even make a case for getting Catch for easy hand-offs or if you really want to take that Thrower and partake in passing. Sure Feet/Sprint increase their scoring range, although I’d be tempted to save up a little more for MV7 instead, still good skills to have though.

For stat-ups, AG is a no-brainer if you can get it, but MV7 is nothing to sniff and drops a few GFIs needed for quick scores. If you roll a Strenght, obviously take it as they’re just never gonna get hit by 2D blocks, and it means you get +2 to your dodge rolls with break tackle, so you can 2+ your way through tackle zones too, channelling your inner Skink as you go!

Try this, honestly I think it’ll be hilarious and actually good. It’s the S4 and Defensive that make this player a fantastic Ball Carrier, as it’s just so hard to get favourable dice on them and they’re still AG3+/Dodge to run away with!!

———————

It’s probably quite easy to see how much I like the Jaguar Warrior Blocker. The real shame is there are only two of them and, I do feel like the Defensive player is the best way to go. Personally, I’d take one of those then either a Killer or Carrier, especially as it feels like they SHOULD be a supporting player as opposed to running around with the ball. However, I just feel like an S4 Ball Carrier is too good to pass up, especially as they can be really good at it!

Vampire Thrower

Probably the closest in terms of the old vanilla Vampire player, is the Vampire Thrower. For 110k, you get the classical statline of Strength 4 and AG2+ along with a very, very nice PA2+ and Pass for good measure. The Vampire Thrower very much does what it says on the...
