Necromantic Horror Starting Rosters | TV1000 – BB2020

Necromantic Horror starting rosters are going to be a little different from their predecessor’s thanks to the Wraiths replacing the Wights, although likely not by much. Necromantic are another team that have gone under a bit of GW surgery with their tabletop re-release, particularly with their more Halloweeny theme and of course the aforementioned positional adjustment, of whom is now a little more expensive as well! In fact, everyone bar the Zombies has gone up 5k, making a lot of the older rosters pretty much obsolete for the new edition.

I do still expect them to play similarly to how they did before as most of the positionals haven’t changed apart from the aforementioned cost increase, so let’s have a look at some Necromantic Horror Starting Rosters for BB2020 and see if there are any changes afoot!

If you want to see some of our thoughts on the Wraiths themselves, check out our previous blog! You should also check out their seriously amazing new models too!

Fleshie Starter, 2 ReRolls TV1000 Roster:

Quantity Player/Item TV Cost
5 Zombie Lineman 200k
1 Ghoul Runner 75k
1 Wraiths 95k
2 Werewolves 250k
2 Flesh Golems 230k
2 ReRolls 140k
Total: 990k

The old version of this roster contained both Wraiths, (previously Wights), Werewolves and Flesh Golems for 970k, however, this is unfortunately no longer possible as such a list is now 1010k in total with the new prices.

Therefore, I’ve dropped a Wraith for a Ghoul Runner, which I don’t think is a bad trade in Blood Bowl 2020 as major casualties are a little harder to get. I’d definitely keep both the Werewolves and the Flesh Golems as they’re very expensive and need SSP as early as possible, especially in the case of the Golems who won’t be able to get SPP from Touchdowns nearly as reliably as the Wolves can.

The Ghoul then provides some well needed Dodge on the team as well as being a decent ball carrier whom the Wraith and Wolves can protect. Heading down the sidelines of the pitch is going to be pretty safe for this team as SideStep means your opponent is going to struggle to dislodge your Wraith while the Wolves threaten the Surf with Frenzy. With No-Hands on the Wraiths, it means your Werewolves and Ghouls are your only viable ball carriers in the team now, so they’re going to be hogging a little more of that SPP.

Going forward I’d be thinking about the second Wraith and of course the 3rd ReRoll. The latter of which is going to be a little harder to get as Necromantic ReRolls are 140k each after making the team! No need to save for an Apothecary thankfully although it does mean your Ghouls are very vulnerable, they’re cheap enough to replace later down the line.

Enter the Ghoul-ag, 3 ReRolls TV1000 Roster:

Quantity Player/Item TV Cost
5 Zombie Lineman 200k
2 Ghoul Runner 150k
2 Wraiths 190k
2 Werewolves 250k
3 ReRolls 210k
Total: 1000k

No Flesh Golems on this one, instead this Necromantic Horror starting roster gives you the teams maximum available speed and agility, turning them into a surprisingly responsive team and a good offensive threat. With two Wraiths and Werewolves, you also go from just threatening the sidelines to absolutely dominating them with all that Side Step and Frenzy.

Your Zombies are going to have to do the job of the Golems due to their absence but with them being so cheap and expendable, they’re perfectly fine to hold the fort for now with decent armour. Both 7Tails and Adokul made excellent use of these guys during the recent GRUMBBL see Season, their Block/Tackle Zombies being a particular pain to shift or get around. They’re expendable enough to mark scary players but might struggle a little to keep up with even average MV, so keep an eye on their positioning and don’t overcommit.

Both Ghouls on the team also mean they protect each other, as your opponent can only target one at a time (not that you should let them get near your fragile Runners). This means you should be able to generate some decent SPP on one of them, enough to grab some Sure Hands and Block. I’d give the other Wrestle personally as a backup sacker in case your Werewolves are occupied elsewhere.

3 ReRolls, 2 Block pieces and 2 Dodge pieces mean you shouldn’t be getting too many turnovers unless you push your luck, so this roster makes for a nice reliable platform to build on. Definitely look to get the Golems as soon as you can, which should be easier now you don’t have to spend a horrific 140k on the 3rd ReRoll. Winnings are much better in this edition and you should have a more consistent cash income as you play more games.

Of the Necromantic Horror starting rosters this would be my personal choice as I prefer a bit more speed over static S4 pieces, it allows me to respond to the threats far quicker and push across the edges of the pitch while throwing expendable Zombies at scary targets to bog them down.

Purchases will, of course, be those Golems and then an extra Zombie or two to make sure you’re always at 11 players or fouling purposes. Or you could save it up to inevitably replace those Ghouls!

Zombie Party, 2 ReRolls TV1000 Roster:

Quantity Player/Item TV Cost
6 Zombie Lineman 240k
2 Wraiths 190k
1 Werewolves 125k
2 Flesh Golems 230k
3 ReRolls 210k
Total: 995k

Zombies for days! No Ghouls but you get a 6th Zombie and that coveted 3rd ReRoll for your troubles. You’re not quite as agile with this build but it does mean your lone Werewolf is going to be getting plenty of SPP early on to turn him into the monsters we know and love. I like having two Wraiths here as it gives you a bit more reliability and two pieces to help protect the Wolf as he makes his way down the pitch. However, being the only AG3+ player on this roster capable of holding the ball, he’s going to hog a lot of SPP and quickly become a target, so be wary!

If you want 3 ReRolls and both Flesh Golems then this might be the one for you, which will certainly help with getting them SPP, as it can be quite tough thanks to a lack of Mighty Blow. They have plenty of Zombies to support them this time around so it’ll be harder for your opponent to isolate them with so many cheap assists around.

The second Werewolf and Ghoul would be my next purchases, probably the Wolf first as he costs so much more.

Necromantic Horror Starting Rosters, Conclusion:

With the cost change and turning the Wights into Wraiths, the Necromantic Horror have a bit more to think about this edition. With the Wraiths losing their hands but gaining sidestep, their roles have changed a little and are going have a tougher time gaining SPP than before. That being said I really like them and I think will compliment the Werewolves nicely, especially as they’re going to be so hard to shift away.

I think we’re going to see more Ghouls in play than before now that it’s only them and the Wolves that can carry the ball on a 3+ even if their fragility remains. I can see the Ghouls being given something like Safe Pair of Hands to make sure the team keeps control of the ball once these guys inevitable come across some Tackle.

The Wolves will, of course, remain the star players of the team with their speed and surfing prowess. They’re seriously going to benefit from being able to jump over prone players as well I think, almost to the point where I’d save up some SPP to try for an Agility boost!

So that’s that, I hope you enjoyed our look at the Necromantic Horror Starting Rosters. If you want to see more, check out our other BB2020 lists!

Vampire Thrower

Probably the closest in terms of the old vanilla Vampire player, is the Vampire Thrower. For 110k, you get the classical statline of Strength 4 and AG2+ along with a very, very nice PA2+ and Pass for good measure. The Vampire Thrower very much does what it says on the...

Leaving 1 Werewolf at home and limiting yourself to 2 rerolls lets you pick up the remaining 7 positionals and 4 zombies for 995k.

That gives you the best chance to skill up your hard to level Str access players, while still giving you depth for speed and ball handling.

I would honestly go with only one Flesh Golem and replace him with a Zombie. The difference in price will buy an extra re-roll. The team will make more use of this rather than an extra S4 player on the LOS. Flesh Golems are nice but don’t provide an awful lot more than the Zombie in any case. The Stand Firm is handy but let’s face it with M4 they’ll rarely be part of the cage. Other than that they’re a S4 Zombie who is harder to injure at almost three times the price.
I have found a third re-roll is pretty much essential with no ball handling skills on the team.
