Snotling Starting Rosters | TV1000 – BB2020 | Part 2

In the previous article, I spoke about some of the more standard Snotling builds, and how you can utilise them. Whilst great, they’re ultimately boring. Why? Cause they’re not Squig-s*** insane that’s why! But seriously, over the next 2 articles, we’ll be covering a strategy that boils down to ‘versatility’. And it all revolves around the following ‘core’ roster:

Mr Moneybags, 3 ReRolls | TV1000 Snotling Starting Rosters:

Quantity Player/Item Total
12 Snotling Linemen 180k
2 Trained Trolls 230k
3 Team ReRolls 180k
Inducement Cost:
CTV: 410k
Total Spent: 590k

“Is… is that it?” I hear you cry. Yes. Yes it is. Now whilst this may seem ‘bland’ (or mad… or both.), let me explain my reasoning here. I removed the pump wagons because, whilst strong, are expensive for a 1 drive piece that requires 50k bribes to maintain. The Flingas are another secret weapon to manage and are ultimately unreliable until you make them into a mortar (a temptation that is very hard to resist, let me tell you!) . The Snotling positionals, whilst a steal for the 5k more than their linemen equivalent, actually cost you 20k more during the inducement step, as the linemen are ‘free’ in that regard. In addition to the Hoppas and Runnas, whilst MV6 is well worth 5k, bar that their extra skills; Pogo Stick and Sprint, aren’t hugely game-changing.

However, by replacing all these guys with ‘regular’ snots, the result is 590k inducement money to spend on things that CAN certainly be game-changing. So for the next 3 builds, this above list is the foundation of them. Now there are ultimately 100’s of combinations you can do, especially when your opponent’s TV climbs above 1000, but here are a few themed suggestions to get you started.

The Sneakiest of Gits, 3 ReRolls | TV1000 Snotling Starting Rosters:

Quantity Player/Item Total
12 Snotling Linemen 180k
2 Trained Trolls 230k
3 Team ReRolls 180k
3 Bribes 150k
1 Biased Referee 80k
1 Da Black Gobbo 225k
1 Helmut Wolf 140k
Inducement Cost: 595k
CTV: 410k
Total Spent: 590k

Now it would be remiss of me to not build a roster around what a true Snotling is: a dirty fouling little git. With this roster, you have your Mr. Moneybags core team, but on top of that, you’ve got 2 killer star players… literally. The Black Gobbo is the hero every snot aspires to be. Whilst he’s only slightly better than a “standard” Goblin in stats (with PA3+ and AV9+), his skills are where he shines. Bombardier, but without Secret Weapon, is potentially great, although not the reason I take him. He has Disturbing Presence, nice against passing teams. Not why I take him. He’s even got the fabled Stab, a skill I adore. Not why I take him. Oh ladies and gentlemen, for me, his true power lies in his ‘Special Rules’. And I quote: “If your team includes the Black Gobbo, you may commit two Foul actions per turn, provided one of your foul actions is committed by the Black Gobbo himself.” Just take that in. Oh, and did I mention he has Sneaky Git for good measure? 2 Fouls per turn on a team that can have potentially 14 players on the pitch. You better hope you don’t fall over! If you can give your Trolls Grab to ‘delicately place’ people into a good fouling position, you’re gonna be in for a treat.

To round off this glorious addition, I introduce Mr Helmut Wulf, a chainsaw player with Pro. Enough said about him really. 3 Bribes and a Bias Ref means you can keep Helmut and The Black Gobbo on for a good long while, and Argue the call for your fouling snots if you need. Depending on your opponent’s TV, Riotous Rookies would be my next go to, to really keep the numbers and fouling advantage all game long.

This build can be good against any team but finds particular value against teams that run with 11 players and who will miss every loss. Think high AV bash teams like Chaos Dwarves, Dwarves, and Orks. Alternatively, any team that relies on specific positionals to do heavy ball work, for example, Necromantic or Khemri teams, will suffer greatly if you can foul those key positionals off the pitch. All in all, Goblins will be jealous of your dirtiness with this team.

Snotling Ammunition, 4 ReRolls | TV1000 Snotling Starting Rosters:

Quantity Player/Item Total
12 Snotling Linemen 180k
2 Trained Trolls 230k
4 Team ReRolls 240k
3 Riotous Rookies 100k
2 Bloodweiser Kegs 100k
1 Grak & Crumbleberry 250k
1 Josef Bugman 100k
Inducement Cost: 550k
CTV: 470k
Total Spent: 650k

“What’s that in the sky? Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No! It’s a flying disappointment!” . Stunty teams and flying has been a pairing of great dissonance for generations now. But, where many have failed, many more will continue to try. And what’s better than 1 flying snot per turn? Why 2 of course! By hiring Grak and Crumbleberry, you gain access to Grak’s ‘Kick Team-Mate’ skill, which can be used every turn without interfering with your Troll’s ‘Throw Team-Mate’ skill.

Has your opponent got a cage? Then you’ve got a target! Throw your snots at the enemy until they run out of players or you run out of snots! Combined with Riotous Rookies, 2 Kegs and (in)famous assistant coach Josef Bugman (who lets you reroll 1’s on KO rolls), you’re not going to run out of ammunition any time soon! I’ve added an extra reroll here to ensure “maximum throwage” per half. It does take you 20k over the 1000TV mark, but that’s a small price to pay to visit the flying circus dontcha think?

Whilst perhaps not the most optimal of builds, it certainly is a fun one! It’ll find the most value against teams that cage up, providing you with lots of targets in a small area, or teams that have unreliable ball picker-uppers for you to steal from. If damage is your goal, low AV cagey teams like Norse or Amazons will hate you for ignoring their skills and getting a Snotling to the head instead. Regardless of the opponent or the build’s effectiveness, the crowd will love you for years to come!

Snotling All-Stars, 3 ReRolls | TV1000 Snotling Starting Rosters:

Quantity Player/Item Total
12 Snotling Linemen 180k
2 Trained Trolls 230k
3 Team ReRolls 180k
3 Riotous Rookies 100k
2 Varag Ghoulchewer 280k
1 Hakflem Shuttlespike 180k
Inducement Cost: 560k
CTV: 410k
Total Spent: 560k

Like with all of these ‘non-standard’ rosters, they feature 2 Star Players. Whilst the past 2 variants have been more (gimmicky) specialised, this one is a little more ‘serious’. With 590k in inducements, you can buy 2 considerably good star players that will give some major versatility to your team. Varag, a Strength 5 monster with Block, Mighty Blow and no Nega-Trait will complete a 3 Big-Guy Line of Scrimmage that will make Chaos Renegades think twice about squaring off. And Hakflem, a Strength 3 Gutter Runner with Extra Arms and Two heads, you can’t really ask for a better ball carrier. Whilst these two might eat up all your SPP, who cares! They’ll win you the game and it’s not like you wanted to level your basic snots anyway.

To help these guys along, Riotous Rookies again adds more bodies to keep your numbers up. But honestly, these two can potentially carry a team all by themselves. This build is probably the best all-rounder build out of the 3 in this article and will see you playing snots in a more (boring) traditional way (well, as much as you can with ST1 players). Nonetheless, it’s a scary build for any player to come up against.

Snotling Starting Rosters, Part 2 Summary:

With these past 3 variants, we have focused on 3 different facets of the Snotling Team: Fouling, Throwing and Star Player Choice. Now, for me, here’s why I’m genuinely considering the Moneybags core build so seriously: These are all interchangeable. Unlike any other team, Snotlings have so much inducement money that they can afford all of these great combinations. What’s more, they only last for a game, so you can swap them out to your heart’s desire! One match you’re fouling, next, you’re throwing! You can actually (kinda) play like Humans by adapting to your opponent’s weakness by inducing stars who counter their play style.

If that wasn’t good enough, as your opponents start to develop and increase their TV, you just get more money to spend. What would make any of these rosters better? That’s right, a Wizard. No matter how many skills your Saurus has, that isn’t going to save him from a FIREBALL!!!

Next up are 3 final variants of Snotlings that continue this line of thought to give you a few more ideas of what you can do, though these ones may be a little more…(pinched) Borrowed.

Vampire Thrower

Probably the closest in terms of the old vanilla Vampire player, is the Vampire Thrower. For 110k, you get the classical statline of Strength 4 and AG2+ along with a very, very nice PA2+ and Pass for good measure. The Vampire Thrower very much does what it says on the...

Grak and Crumbleberry count as two Star Players.

Indeed they do! Though Josef Bugman is an infamous coach, which you can have 0-1 of. And from what I can tell, he doesn’t count towards your star player limit (presumably because he only comes in for a single drive), so the build should still be legal. 🙂
