Yo, I heard you like Block, so we made a team that’s all about Block! Well that’s how it used to be anyway, the team has gone through a few changes recently and so you’ll see some changes to the Norse Starting Rosters thanks to their roster updates. For the most part, they still function the same, average stats with low armour but they can field almost as much Block as Dwarves can, along with some effective positionals, plenty of Frenzy and even some pigs to keep them going!
Despite the ample Block, they’re not really an all-out bashy team as their low armour means when they eventually get hit, they go down very easily, especially if they get drawn into a big scrum and take enough hits for Block to be circumvented. They’re a little like Dark Elves or Amazons in that they want to pick their fights and utilise their Frenzy players to either surf opposing players or create space for the new Valkyries to operate. Early on their Block advantage is really helpful and they’ll have more freedom to choose specialist skills from the get-go as opposed to having to acquire Block first. They also have a pretty unique big guy in the Yhetee, who comes with Claw as opposed to Mighty Blow, giving him an edge against other big guys.
If you want to see a full breakdown of the changes to the Norse team, we covered them here. In the meantime, let’s get to bashing with our Norse Starting Rosters for Blood Bowl 2020 and Blood Bowl 3!
Nordic Power, 3 ReRolls | TV1000 Norse Starting Rosters:
Quantity | Player/Item | TV Cost |
4 | Norse Raider Linemen | 200k |
2 | Beer Boar | 40k |
2 | Norse Berserker | 180k |
2 | Valkyrie | 190k |
2 | Ulfwerener | 210k |
3 | ReRolls | 180k |
Total: | 1000k |
This gets you everything apart from the Yhetee, which shouldn’t take you too long to get. Four Linemen should be plenty enough to keep you going and with their Thicker Skulls they’ll be lingering around a little longer compared to the previous edition, plus with a Boar on the pitch, they might even get to hit back quicker than your opponent likes!
Overall I think this is pretty balanced, you’re gonna be generating SPP for all of your main players from game one which for your Ulfs is very important. Just be careful not to let your Valkyries hog too much of the experience as you go, they’re definitely your best scorers so everyone else is going to be reliant on Casualties and MVP’s for their points. With the new reroll rules it might even be worth having your Berserkers or Ulfs grab the ball for a cheeky touchdown should the game go your way. The Boars at least provide your Pick-Me-Ups and they’re cheap enough that losing one to a sending off isn’t the end of the world.
Your next steps are definitely an Apothecary, Valks and Berserkers are still AV8+ and it only takes a semi-decent roll for them to be injured.
Don’t Forget-ee the Yhetee, 3 ReRolls | TV1000 Norse Starting Rosters:
Quantity | Player/Item | TV Cost |
5 | Norse Raider Linemen | 250k |
1 | Beer Boar | 20k |
2 | Valkyrie | 190k |
2 | Ulfwerener | 210k |
1 | Yhetee | 140k |
3 | ReRolls | 180k |
Total: | 990k |
Essentially we’re trading the Berserkers for the Yhetee here in order to keep the three ReRolls, which is pretty important. Of all the positional I feel the Berserkers are the easiest to drop as I’d much rather keep the two Valkyries, they’re definitely going to have the better impact on the team.
It does mean your 11th player is a Boar who will probably be removed fairly quickly but both your Ulfs and Valks are going to be getting their SPP nice and early. There’s not quite as much Block here compared to normal, so that’s worth bearing in mind if you decide to do lots of hitting, another point in favour of keeping that third ReRoll.
Next up will be to get the Apothecary and maybe trade some low SPP Linemen for a Berserker.
Block & Frenzy!, 3 ReRolls | TV1000 Norse Starting Rosters:
Quantity | Player/Item | TV Cost |
7 | Norse Raider Linemen | 350k |
2 | Norse Berserker | 180k |
2 | Ulfwerener | 210k |
1 | Yhetee | 140k |
2 | ReRolls | 120k |
Total: | 1000k |
No Valkyries or Boars to be seen in this build, just silly amounts of Block and Frenzy!
12 players gives you a decent bench size, even with Thick Skull you’re still going to see the Linemen make their way into the dugouts frequently enough. Only two ReRolls which makes your ball handling a little hard to manage, but with 9 Block players on the pitch you can easily save them for ball only actions and maybe rescue an Ulf every now and then.
Honestly, this is a pretty strong defensive build, your opponents are going to have a wall of Block to worth through that really only pure Dwarves could manage and enough Frenzy to make even players in the middle of the pitch concerned about falling into the crowd!
I’d definitely consider a Valkryie next follow by an Apothecary. If you’re drowning in cash then a ReRoll will be useful too.
Play it Safe!, 4 ReRolls | TV1000 Norse Starting Rosters:
Quantity | Player/Item | TV Cost |
7 | Norse Raider Linemen | 350k |
2 | Valkyrie | 190k |
2 | Ulfwerener | 210k |
4 | ReRolls | 240k |
Total: | 990k |
If you want four rerolls, this would be where I’d start. As mentioned above, I feel like the Berserkers are the easiest to drop out of 3 positions and I’d like to keep the Ulfs on where possible for maximum SPP gain. Seven lots of Block is still more than most teams can manage outside of Dwarves, so you’ll be able to have a good defensive line, while your Valkyries manage the offensive strikes on your drive. Four ReRolls gives you a lot of flexibility now you can spend more than one per turn. You could also spend the extra 10k on some Dedicated Fans which is very tempting, even with the Valks you’re not a super high scoring team so some extra cash will really come in handy.
Norse BB2020 Starting Rosters, Conclusion:
The Norse Blood Bowl team really needed a refresh and these new rules are really good in my view. Personally, I’d be choosing between the Nordic Power and Play it Safe builds, maximising the time your Valkyries and Ulfwereners are on the pitch then looking to get a Yhetee later down the line, but they’re easy to swap out if you want to start with one and in terms of Big Guys, they’re not a bad pick at all!
They’re looking a lot better honestly, as we said before combining the Thrower and Catcher into the Valkryie has really helped the team and the Boars are super thematic. If you want to see more of our builds, make sure to check them out as well as our player builds, of which the Norse ones will be coming soon!
