Kroxigor

The Kroxigor is like a Saurus, but if that Saurus was even taller, even stronger and even meaner. This Big Guy is in hot contention for one of the best in the game, rocking in at 140k which puts it in the same cost bracket as the various Ogres. Compared to Ogre, you get a very similar statline, but AG5+ and no PA at all, however, your movement jumps to 6 and you gain the signature Prehensile Tail. Yes, you lose Throw Team Mate but, Skinks (thankfully) do not have Right Stuff so it doesn’t matter. So while the Krox doesn’t quite benefit from Break Tackle in the same way as the Ogre, if it’s free it can move much further and Prehensile Tail makes it highly effective against those pesky dodgers, something a lot of Big Guys can struggle with.

Compared to some it’s also pretty reliable and thanks to PT, you don’t always have to activate the Krox to make it useful, which is very nice considering there’s no Mutations access to acquire something like Tentacles. Bone Head isn’t the worst of the negative traits and with Pro now being 3+ it can be mitigated quite nicely. You’re also surrounded by 6 ST4 Blockers rather than just 4, so the Kroxigor will easily be able to get additional support as needed, especially with the Saurus’s MV6 letting them come from further afield to help.

MV6 puts it at the same speed as the Rat Ogre, although with AG5+, Break Tackle is a bit less effective, making the first roll a 3+ (compared to 2+ for Rat Ogres, Ogres or Minotaurs). It’s still fairly decent however and you should be able to break free most of the time, but you’ll need to get Pro or maybe even Dodge to make the most of it. You’ll also want to watch for any Big Guys with mutations access, they’ll bring your AV10+ all the way down to 8+ with Claw, so keep them off the line when Defending and you spot a Chaos Ogre with some… additional features.

The biggest issue is funnily enough, the rest of the team. Saurus all got a 5k increase and the ReRolls got a 10k increase, so to fit your Kroxigor in, you’re having to drop 2 Saurus and live with just 2 ReRolls. So your choices really, are going to be to start with the Krox or maximum Saurus… most coaches will probably go for the latter.

Lizard Anchor| Kroxigor Build

Primaries: Guard, Stand Firm, Grab, Break Tackle
Secondaries: Block, Pro, Dodge
Characteristics: ST, AG

Like most Big Guys in the 2020/BB3 ruleset, it’s honestly worth saving up for Block first if you can. Early days you’re not going to be seeing too much Block in front of you so you’ll mostly be safe from it for a few games, giving you some time for MB to earn you some SPP and then you’ll be up and running. You could grab Guard first, but you’ll be getting this on a few Saurus anyway, so I’d be more than happy to wait for it and save myself a few SPP in the long run. There’s the argument to be made that yes, with 12sp you could get 2 Primaries and a Krox with Guard and Stand Firm is pretty darn potent, but you should be ok to get 6 Casualties in a relatively decent amount of time.

I quite like Grab on the Krox as well, with Break Tackle being a bit worse, you can keep opponents nearby, or alternatively move them is such a way to get your Krox free for the next turn by moving them next to a Saurus, who then blocks them further away. Alternatively, you can move horrible dodgy things into even more tackle zones where Prehensile Tail becomes really dangerous. Stand Firm also benefits the tail as well, stopping you from being pushed out of base contact with whatever it is you’re holding onto. Break Tackle is definitely still a consideration and if you’re flush with SPP you can try to get Dodge as well to make it an 88.9% chance to succeed on that first roll.

Pro is probably the better Secondary, however, helping you with badly timed Boneheads and Double Skull rolls.

If you’re REALLY flush with SPP, then Strength 6 of course is scary as hell, you’ll only need 1 assist to get 3 die blocks vs Strength 3. AG is good fun, makes your Break Tackle 2+ and it might even catch a loose ball once in a while.

Tail of Doom |Saurus Blocker Build

Primaries: Arm Bar, Break Tackle, Guard, Stand Firm
Secondaries: Pro, Diving Tackle, Block, Tackle
Characteristics: ST, MV

If you’re in a very long league and feel like you want to go down the Secondary path a lot, you could lean into the Prehensile Tail aspect of the Kroxigor and make yourself a Krox who just loves to rip over Elves and the like. It’s not seen often but, Arm Bar is easy to get and most of the time, AG2+ players will just run away from you, so having this will either dissuade them. or make their failed 1/3s quite painful. This is even better vs AV8+ teams like Union or Woodies.

Pro + Break Tackle will help you run into important players too, then if you can afford Diving Tackle, there’s not a lot that will run away from you easily. Against AG2+, DT+PT is a 5+ roll, so even with Dodge is only a 55.6% chance to succeed and then when it fails, Arm Bar will come calling!

After that you can look at getting some Guard, Stand Firm and Block, just to round out the build and give him some utility when not marking dodgy players.

———————

We all love a Big Guy and the Kroxigor is just about the best of them. Personally, I would go for the first build, most of the time you’ll be faced with either sacrificial linemen or something with decent AV, so getting them down while staying up yourself is very important. You’ll need to synergise with your Saurus as well, the two players, when working together, form a formidable frontline that really, only other Lizardman teams, or Tomb Kings can match.

That’s it for the Kroxigor builds! Check out our guides for Chameleon Skink builds, Skink Runner Linemen build and the Saurus Blockers.

Vampire Thrower

Probably the closest in terms of the old vanilla Vampire player, is the Vampire Thrower. For 110k, you get the classical statline of Strength 4 and AG2+ along with a very, very nice PA2+ and Pass for good measure. The Vampire Thrower very much does what it says on the...
