Slann/Kislev TV1000 Starting Rosters

What happens, when a bunch of alien frogs get permanently poly-morphed into north-men circus people?
The Kislev team in Bloodbowl 2 happens. The team in itself is very weird, with no players having any traditional starting skills (except their Kroxigor Bear), opting for the Very Long Legs and Leap combo for the Linemen, Blitzers and Catchers.

This gives the team a great variety of starting rosters, since you can really customise the players to your liking, but also makes your start more difficult, because you don’t have many skills.

With that said, let’s take a look at some Starting Rosters

Variant 1: All Catchers | Kislev Starting Rosters

Quantity Player Cost
1 Blitzer 110k
4  Catcher 320k
6 Linemen 360k
4 Rerolls 200k
Total 990k

The Catchers are the best Leap-piece in the team, leaping successfully on 2+, because of their greater Agility, so if you want to confuse your opponent with leaping across all of the pitch, this is your roster! Beware though, the Catcher is also the weakest member of the team, at Strength 2, and the most fragile team member, at Armour 7, as well.
4 Rerolls is ideally all the Rerolls you will ever need, even with a reroll heavy team like Kislev, so you can spend your first 50k in winnings on an Apothecary (trust me, he’ll get a lot of work), and then you can decide if you want more Blitzers or the Kroxigor Bear first.

Variant 2: Middle of the Road | Kislev Starting Rosters

Quantity Player Cost
2 Blitzer 220k
2 Catcher 160k
7 Linemen 420k
4 Rerolls 200k
Total 1000k

At first glance, the Blitzers seem really expensive – no Block on a piece named “Blitzer”? So they got to be Strength 4, right? Also not the case. Why do they cost 110k per piece then?

For me, the price is two-fold. One part of the price is obviously the player you get right out of the gate, with Jump Up and Diving Tackle (which make a great combo). Especially Diving Tackle is a great skill which can shut a lot of Dodges down. The other part, is, more so than any other player in the game, the potential. Kislev Blitzers get normal access to all skills bar passing – this, combined with not being hamstrung into a role by starting skills, makes them extremely versatile.

Variant 3: 1 Catcher | Kislev Starting Rosters

Quantity Player Cost
2 Blitzer 220k
1 Catcher 80k
8 Linemen 480k
4 Rerolls 200k
Total 980k

This is my personal preferred starting build, in which you use the Catcher as your primary ball handler (or even thrower, if you want. I know, ironic, isn’t it?) to funnel the first SPP into your Blitzers. The slightly lower Team Value puts you 20k closer to the Apothecary, and once you acquired that,it’s again a question of preference what you want to get next – more Blitzers? More Catchers? The Kroxigor Bear? All possible!

Variant 4: Kroxigor Bear Start | Kislev Starting Rosters

Quantity Player Cost
1 Kroxigor Bear 140k
3 Catcher 240k
7 Linemen 420k
4 Rerolls 200k
Total 100k

The only downside of starting with the Kroxigor Bear for me personally, is starting without Blitzers. But the Big Guy gives your team another target to hit that isn’t one of your Catchers, so that’s a good thing! Use the Kroxigor Bear to clear a part of the pitch for some running or pacing plays, and keep the opponents team on their toes with Prehensile Tail!

The first buy is, once again, our good friend the Apothecary, who will try (success not guaranteed) tomend all the broken bones the failed leap attempts will amass, and after that you can save money for your Blitzers!

Conclusion:

There are other strategies out there, that sacrifice the Blitzers and the Kroxigor to have a player on the Bench, or you can try and start with 5 rerolls, but these four Variants are the ones I have seen most often in the wilds of Blood Bowl 2.

For me, this team is exactly what makes Blood Bowl great. It doesn’t matter if you win or lose, the game will be fun and interesting, because with Leap, anything can happen!

Vampire Thrower

Probably the closest in terms of the old vanilla Vampire player, is the Vampire Thrower. For 110k, you get the classical statline of Strength 4 and AG2+ along with a very, very nice PA2+ and Pass for good measure. The Vampire Thrower very much does what it says on the...

I think 4 catchers is the strongest start for sort competitions.
