Chaos Renegades 1000TV Starting Rosters

Turns out, you’re a bit extreme for another team. Your former teammates weren’t all that into live sacrifices. Apparently, eating your coach is frowned upon, even in Orc society.

But do not worry! Because even if no other team wants to associate with you, you can still join the Chaos Renegades! Blood Bowl’s very own ragtag bunch of (mutated) misfits will welcome you with open arms, no matter which Chaos God you’re serving!

With 2020 the team received a few but very big changes. The Linemen, or Marauders, as they were known before, completely lost Passing access, but the team in itself gained a dedicated thrower. The Big Guys remain and made a new friend! You can now choose 3 out of 4, with the Rat Ogre being new to the selection.

With that said, let’s see what kind of different starting builds I can come up with:

All Humans, 3 Monsters

Quantity Player Cost
8 Linemen/Marauders 400k
1   Thrower 75k
1 Renegade Troll 115k
1 Renegade Ogre 140k
1 Renegade Minotaur 150k
1 Reroll 70k
Total 950k

Here you get (in my opinion) the three best big guys the team has access to, on top of a bunch of humans that will do the actual ball playing for you, while the monsters are busy thrashing your opponent’s team. The Rat Ogre is a new addition, but in this article you won’t see a build with the Rat Ogre, because the Renegades lack cheap linemen (read: Snotlings) to feed the Rat Ogre so it does what you want it to.

The build only starts with one Reroll, you could drop either the Thrower or one of the Marauders to get a second one, if one is not enough for you. Otherwise this leaves you with enough money to buy an Apothecary, or your favourite assortment of Cheerleaders, Assistant Coaches and Dedicated Fans.

Note: You can freely switch out any Marauders with the Renegade Orc (-1MV/+1AV), or the Renegade Skaven (-1AV/+1MV) at your personal preference, since the cost for them is identical.

A little bit of everything:

Quantity Player Cost
6 Linemen/Marauders 300k
1   Thrower 75k
1 Renegade Goblin 40k
1 Renegade Orc 50k
1 Renegade Skaven 50k
1 Renegade Dark Elf 75k
1 Renegade Ogre 140k
1 Renegade Minotaur 150k
1 Reroll 70k
Total 950k

With this, you start the team with every available positional and two of your big guys. Again, only one Reroll, which basically means: Don’t try and Reroll things your Monsters do, just focus on your other players. Speaking of other players. Except for the Marauders, everybody in this team doesn’t really fit in, so sometimes, they don’t want to play ball. In rules terms: Every player on this team, except the Marauders and the Big Guys has Animosity with Every. Single. Teammate.

I personally still like throwing the Ball around, even if it sometimes doesn’t quite go as expected, but if you’re not into Passes, you can easily drop the Thrower and get more Rerolls, like the slightly modified build following below:

Little bit of everything, Example 2

Quantity Player Cost
6 Linemen/Marauders 300k
1 Renegade Goblin 40k
1 Renegade Orc 50k
1 Renegade Skaven 50k
1 Renegade Dark Elf 75k
1 Renegade Ogre 140k
1 Renegade Troll 115k
3 Reroll 210k
Total 970k

Dropping the Thrower and switching out the Minotaur for the cheaper Troll gives you enough funds to afford 2 additional Rerolls and giving you a bit more leeway. Having both the Ogre and the Troll gives you two players that can throw your Goblin around the field, and since we all know how throwing normally goes, you have some more rerolls to get a second chance at landing on your feet.

No Thrower, All Monsters

If you decide that the Thrower doesn’t really fit into your game plan, you can drop him from the Line-up, and start with all three Big Guys, a Goblin, one more Reroll and an Apothecary:

Quantity Player Cost
7 Linemen/Marauders 350k
1   Renegade Goblin 40k
1 Renegade Troll 115k
1 Renegade Ogre 140k
1 Renegade Minotaur 150k
2 Reroll 140k
1 Apothecary 50k
Total 985k

The introduction of the 5k price interval costs this build a Reroll, as it would have landed at 1005k with three Rerolls and no Apothecary. If the physical well-being of your players is not a priority to you, feel free to switch out the Apothecary for an extra Marauder (or Skaven, or Orc) for your bench, or some Dedicated Fans who will shower you in money (with which you then can afford to pay your players hospital bills….)

Conclusion:

Renegades offer a lot of variety and allow you to tailor the team to your preference. So if you have a different idea, it isn’t necessarily better or worse than any of the builds here, just different. A lot of my builds here start with very low rerolls, on a team that has no starting skills that help with Blocking or Picking up the ball. Bear that in mind, and cut things for more Rerolls if you want to be on the safer side. But otherwise, lace up your shoes, do your sacrifice to Khorne, Nurgle, Slaanesh, Tzeentch (or Nuffle), and start crunching your opponents into flakes!

Vampire Thrower

Probably the closest in terms of the old vanilla Vampire player, is the Vampire Thrower. For 110k, you get the classical statline of Strength 4 and AG2+ along with a very, very nice PA2+ and Pass for good measure. The Vampire Thrower very much does what it says on the...
