Blood Bowl 2020 Teams of Legend

With the new edition of Blood Bowl on its way, a lot of us were wondering where the Blood Bowl 2020 Teams of Legend were going to be placed in Season Two of the new game. With the main rules themselves lacking any mention of them unlike the previous publications, some of us were a little worried a few of the old fan favourites were being behind as we moved into the new edition.

But not to worry, the Teams of Legend rules were posted on the Warhammer Community site, for all to download and read, to much rejoicing!

So then, let’s have a quick look at what to expect from the, so far at least, Teams of Legend for Blood Bowl 2020!

Amazons

Amazon Team

Hilariously enough, the first version of the PDF included a copy & paste error where the Blitzer’s had the same stats and skills as a Wardancer but for 90k! The Thrower even had AG2+ as well, which led to much hysteria amongst our players.

The reality, however, is this team is how I expected it to be, with everything being pretty much the same other than the usual cost adjustments which we’ve seen throughout the new edition (5k more each for the Catcher & Thrower). I agree with the Tier 1 placement as well as Amazons are arguably one of the best teams at low-mid TV until tackle becomes more prevalent.

Chaos Dwarf

Chaos Dwarf Team

Everything is as expected really here, with the only thing of note being the Minotaur gets Animal Savagery which puts him from bad to likely detrimental in this players opinion. No cost changes either which isn’t a surprise considering the regular Dwarf Blockers remained the same and I think the other players are costed correctly. Tier 1 is absolutely correct as well for this team.

Something worth noticing is the there is NO PASSING ACCESS on this team at all, not even as a secondary. It’s probably not going to be too much of an issue but something like Leader or On The Ball might have been nice to grab as a bit of an “out-there” skill.

High Elf

High Elf Team

Our resident High Elf coach Marv very nearly predicted this team before it’s release so… good job! Speaking of here’s what he had to say!

“Using my great skills, learned from 3 seasons of playing High Elves, I managed to nearly perfectly predict how this team would turn out. If that doesn’t make me the greatest High Elf Coach around, I don’t know what. In all honesty, except for the Thrower being more expensive (10k), and everybody but these two being a lot worse at passing, nothing changes for the best Elves on the pitch. We’ll see if the team will get a bigger shake-up when (or if) it makes the jump from ‘Legends’ to ‘Active’. – Marv

Thank you, Marv!

Again not much out of the ordinary and I love the inclusion of Cloud Burster on the thrower, it’s both thematic and really plays into the idea that these are the top “passers”. Honestly, for 10k I’d say it’s worth it considering the new interference rules, it’s also just a great name for a skill! Catchers lost any and all Passing access which is a shame because I genuinely think Fumblerooskie is going to be good on Elf teams, especially on fast players like Catchers. Tier 2 is probably about right but I think will do well in the new edition.

Norse

Blood Bowl Teams of Legend

Again another fun fact of the first copy, the Yhetee had no Loner roll attached to the skill so technically could Loner for free!

Ulfwerener’s got dropped 5k which isn’t really reflected in their stats, they don’t have a PA skill but nobody expected them to be passing anyway. Probably the most notable change is the Yhetee losing Wild Animal and getting Unchanneled Fury…. which does the same thing! At least he didn’t get Animal Savagery….. Tier 1 is probably about right, especially early on in a League.

Tomb Kings

Tomb Kings Blood Bowl Team

They lost the term “Khemri”… it’s not even mentioned in the team description…. literally unplayable!!!!!

Anyway, again not much to talk about here, everything as expected. I think for me seeing the Thrower get AG3+ would have made the team a little less needlessly punishing when picking up the ball and maybe being PA4+ (you’re not throwing anyway…) instead. But alas the team remains the same, no gold changes either. Tier 2 is fine as I wouldn’t lump them into Tier 3 for sure. The Decay change will definitely help the Guardians be a little more robust over a league, getting a +1 to the roll as opposed to choosing two outcomes.

There’s a mistake on the Blitzers where for some reason they have AS/AP, I imagine this should be GS/AP.

Vampires

Vampire Blood Bowl Team

Oh…oh….

I’ve been thinking about this change a lot. The removal of Bloodlust is a shame of course, but to change it to Animal Savagery is… well it’s not good to say the least. Previously you’d roll a D6, on a 2+ you’re good but on a 1 you either nom the nearest Thrall. It wasn’t the best skill and having your Vampire waltz off the pitch because he had no necks to sink his teeth into was a shame but it was thematic and manageable to a degree with the right set of skills, ample rerolls and good Thrall positioning.

However, now unless they’re blocking (which they’re not always doing as you usually have 3-6 of them, one of which is y’know…CARRYING THE BALL), they now need a 4+ to actually activate and y’know…MOVE. Not only that, if you fail, your Vampire knocks down an adjacent player WHICH CAN INCLUDE OTHER VAMPIRES NOW! Yes, he can continue on after doing so, but now not only is it a harder roll but just moving a Vampire is a massive risk, either he stays still or he takes a swing at a friendly…on a 4+!!! The only benefit here is your Vamps no longer leave the pitch if there’s nobody to snack on, but it’s entirely likely that on the first go, your Vamps just take out half your team through even mediocre dice.

This is, honestly, a completely unnecessary nerf to a team that really didn’t need it and I entirely expect to be adjusted upon their hopeful full return to the game. In this players opinion, they should be Tier 3 now, I’d actually argue they’re worse than Halflings by virtue of how likely they are to constantly do damage to themselves.

Whew, we went into a bit of a rant at the end there but that’s all of the Blood Bowl 2020 Teams of Legend. One can only hope that eventually, we see these guys released, a few of which (High Elves and Chaos Dwarves in particular) are probably not that far away.

Speaking of the new edition, don’t forget we’ve been making some Blood Bowl 2020 Team Builds and Rosters for you to check out. With the confirmation of these new rules, we’ll definitely be making some for the Teams of Legend too soon!

*Note the above lists are posted for free on the Warhammer Community site and are shown as they were on 12/11/2020. For the full rules do purchase the book when released, we certainly are!*
